Peña de Horeb/Mojarra

From one of our Dominican partners:

Peña de Horeb School is located in Batey Mojarra in the Community of Guerra, this place was first inhabited by Haitians and with the course of the years it has grown and has a population of haitians and Dominicans, it is a vulnerable place and most of people have diverse types of day-to-day jobs, families are composed by 2 parents as the head of the house or single mothers.

Before the COVID-19 Pandemic hit our Country our team served lunch to 205 children from 165 families, and after the government started the quarantine in March 2020 the schools were closed and we started to wonder about how we would keep in touch with the children and their families  all those days, the community where we serve is below the level of poverty,  and the people were confined to their houses in order to avoid the spread of the virus, since they don’t have steady incomes, we were trying to find a way to help. In the midst of this issue we received the news of an organization from the Government that was going to send a food ration for each student that would last for a week. We spoke with our team and even with the risk of getting infected we became a part of an activity every Monday to deliver 205 food rations to 165 families of the community.
